The service life of UV-protective fabrics depends on a variety of factors, including the quality of the fabric, frequency of use, and washing and maintenance practices.

For coated sun-protective fabrics, it is recommended to minimize washing frequency. When washing, use cold water and perform a gentle hand wash; avoid vigorous rubbing as well as the use of chemical agents such as bleach or fabric softeners. After washing, never expose the fabric to direct sunlight; instead, lay it flat to air dry. Fabrics featuring inherent UV protection (derived from the yarn itself) are characterized by their wash durability and ease of care. Verified through testing, high-quality inherent UV-protective fabrics can withstand hundreds of machine washes while still maintaining stable sun-protective performance.

When storing these items, choose a dry and well-ventilated environment to prevent damage from moisture or chemical substances. Standard chemically coated fabrics may see their UV-protective performance drop below effective standards after 20 to 30 washes, whereas physical UV-protective fabrics can maintain their efficacy for over 50 washes. Therefore, it is advisable to regularly inspect the condition of the garment and replace it promptly if any issues are detected.
